Lord Crewe Arms: Rebrand
Concepts, design & copywriting: Jo Dixon | Client: The Calcot Collection, UK
Part of the total rebrand of The Calcot Collection, a small, eclectic group of luxury country house hotels, spas, restaurants and inns in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds and Northumberland. Each property is unique, with its own distinctive personality. The Lord Crewe Arms is the “rogue” northerner of the Calcot Collection. An estate village on the edge of the North Pennine moors, the property comprises an abbey, with the stone quadrangle and historic abbot’s guesthouse.
With huge personality, branding for the “Crewe” plays on its history and location, plus a dose of humour and Geordie “banter” thrown in for good measure. The logo encompasses the iconic red grouse from the area (with his quirky cutlery crest) and a heraldic-style shield. The Crewe embraces its wild location, serving great food and hosting foodie events at The Gatehouse just across the square. The Gatehouse branding is derivative of the main Crewe logo, bringing the grouse character front and centre.
Howay and head for the hills! Swept up in the wilds of the North Pennines, a once-upon-a-time abbot’s guesthouse sits proudly in the honey-stoned village of Blanchland.
Wallow in the warmth of our bedrooms, lovingly soothed with Pennine hues and all the creature comforts. Relish in the spoils of The Bishop’s Dining Room and the notorious Hilyard, where food that harks of heritage and skill is just made for feasting and passing around.
In the kitchen, we chase the seasons and in our vaulted bar, we celebrate them… We love a bit of banter, some bar bait and a good craic! As the old girl creeks, we listen affectionately to eight hundred magnificent years of tales… of monks and bishops, Lords and merry-makers. A sanctuary once for the pious is now all yours for the taking.
With moors that shout out adventure right on the doorstep… get out, plot north, walk, cycle or explore… then head home to kick off your boots, hang your hat and stay a while.
You’re well-and truly nabbed!
